Hybrid, off-grid and battery
Daytime power kept for the night, and still on when the grid goes down.
What it is
A hybrid inverter manages three sources at once: panels, battery and grid. By day the panels supply the load and charge the battery; at night or in an outage the battery takes over. For sites with no grid, an off-grid system stands alone, with panels and batteries sized for the whole day’s need.
Suits
- Sites with an unreliable grid
- Islands and remote areas
- Operations that cannot go dark
How it works
- Solar panels
- Hybrid inverter
- Battery
- Critical loads
- The PLN grid, if there is one
What the survey checks
- Which loads must stay on, and for how long
- Night-time use and how often the grid fails there
- Space and ventilation for the battery
- How your power needs are likely to grow
Common questions
Will I still have power when the grid goes down?
A plain grid-tied system shuts down with the grid, for the safety of line workers. To stay on, you need a hybrid system with a battery, or an off-grid one.
When does a battery make sense?
When you use a lot of power at night, the grid is unreliable, some loads must never go down, or the site is far from the grid.
